The Oak River School is a Kindergarten to Grade 6 facility. It is a small school environment in which the students receive a lot of teacher attention. The school, because of its small environment, has a high education standard, an up to date computer lab with Internet access, as well as a recently built library, which provides students with a broad range of information.

Students at Oak River have the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of sports such as volleyball, baseball, basketball, badminton, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, curling, soccer, and track. For many years, the school has been involved in the Birdtail Festival of the Arts and Rolling River Festival. Annual field trips to historic and educational sites are regular. The local children continue their high school education at Rivers Collegiate Institute in Rivers, Manitoba (located 15 miles southeast of Oak River).

A Day Care Facility opened up in the school on February 4, 2013.
